My Cover Designs

(Update: I hope you’ll scroll down and enjoy the covers, even click on a few to check out the ebooks, but please note that at present I am not taking on any cover design jobs. I have new books in the works and need to focus on writing for awhile. Thanks! Julie)

I worked as a professional graphic designer before I sold my first novel, Drive Me Wild in 2000. Since then, I have designed bookmarks, postcards, magazine ads, and other promotional material for authors as my writing schedule allows. Now that the ebook revolution is upon us, I am thrilled to be designing covers. If you’re interested in having me design a cover for you, contact me to get a cost estimate. Portfolio

The price of cover design depends on three things: the number of images, time spent searching for images, and amount of PhotoShop work required. So, I’m grouping my portfolio into three groups: Top of the Line, Simple but Splendid, Money-Saving Multiples.

Top of the Line

Each of these covers took multiple images and required several hours of PhotoShop work to meld the images together. If the client provides the images, or helps me find them, the price ranges between $200 to $350.If I search for images on my own, $300 to $500.

Simple but Splendid

Simple doesn’t have to mean dull. In fact, the first one shown, Honeymoon for One has been so successful, Barnes and Noble chose it as one of the covers shown on the NookColor ad. Each of these covers took only one or two images, frequently provided by the client, and required very little PhotoShop work. What makes them work? Layout and fonts! That’s why a great cover needs more than just a great image. It needs a good graphic designer to put it together. Prices for these covers range from $100 to $175.

Marvelous Multiples

Creating a uniform look for several titles is great for marketing and saving money. The first cover will be priced as above, but subsequent covers may be only half as much, because the concept work is done.

Awesome covers Julie…you do great work. My talents don’t include graphics…so I’ll keep you in mind for that. I am great a getting content into PDF formats and helping people create strategic plans for their nonfiction content…and I know how challenging it can be to get everything tweaked “just right”. Congrats on getting that done and on a great concept with your members only area!

Whoo Hoooooo…love to see people getting their message out to the world.

love and light, hugs and blessings

  6. Thanks, MamaRed! It’s an exciting time to be an author. In the past year I’ve gone from being worried and depressed about the state of publishing to really thrilled about all the doors that are now open thanks to ereaders finally taking off. Amazing things happening. And I’m thrilled to be part of it.
